There are New Testament (NT) verses that state by giving to the weak, helpless and poor, is the same as giving to God. There are no NT verses that state to give money to God. So be careful when you hear anyone saying, give to God. Disciples and apostles were poor by choice (as with Jesus). The Disciples and apostles did ask for collections of funds to help while under persecution, and for other disciples, apostles and poor saints. They had also reminded churches not to forget the poor.

Giving to a church is giving to a congregation, or assembly of believers. Those gifts are then meant to be distributed amongst the assembly according to their need. He that had much had nothing left over, and he that had little no lack. The left overs were then distributed to others who were poor. Otherwise it became a religion and not a church, according to the NT. God's gift of salvation is free, and does not cost money, only belief, worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth.

1st Corinthians 00303 13:2 - 3
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. (13:3) And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Romans 00399 15:26
For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

Galatians 00034 2:10
Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

James 00032 2:5 - 6
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? (2:6) But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

2nd Corinthians 00144 8:15
As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

GIVING: Give a gift of what you have, $5, $10, $20, $50, food, time, or material will go far to help a neighbor near or far. Try this, sell what you don't want of what you have, and then sell what you don't need of what you have, and give the funds directly to the poor, Luke 00846 19:8. Always be alert and aware.
