To help understand the scriptures, it is sometimes good learning to ponder on what was not written. For example, Jesus and his disciples never asked for money from others for themselves, or took wages for their ministering. Jesus never asked from others for anything for His Father in heaven except for the repentance of sins. In the last scriptures below, notice Zacchaeus told Jesus he would give half of what he had to the poor, and not to Jesus, and notice the reply Jesus gave him.

Luke 00768 17:10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
Do not allow yourself to be condemned for not tithing. Tithing was a law for the sons of Levi, who received the office of the priesthood, who had a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, Hebrews 00106 7:5. New testament search appearances for tithing; zero, tithes; eight, and tithe; twice. Read also, Is tithing a law and cursed?
Do not condemn yourself for not giving much. Give as you have purposed in you heart and with simplicity.
Romans 00372 14:22 - 23
(22) Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. (23) And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
Luke 00553 11:41
But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
GIVING: Give a gift of what you have, $5, $10, $20, $50, food, time, or material will go far to help a neighbor near or far. Try this, sell what you don't want of what you have, and then sell what you don't need of what you have, and give the funds directly to the poor, See Luke 00846 19:8 below. Always be alert and aware.
2nd Corinthians 00163 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
Romans 00321 12:8
Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Romans 00374 15:1 - 6
(1) We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. (2) Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. (3) For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. (4) For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (5) Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: (6) That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 00599 12:33
Jesus said, Sell that ye have (see Luke 19:8 below,) and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
Hebrews 00142 8:13
In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Luke 00805 18:10 - 14
Jesus compares a righteous man who tithed, verses a professed sinner. (10) Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. (11) The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. (12) I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. (13) And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Luke 00843 19:5 - 10
(5) And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. (6) And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. (7) And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. (8) And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. (9) And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. (10) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
